Production

Diatoms, which are dug out in mines, contain 60 – 70% water because of their very high porosity. After being crushed, the ore is dried, finely ground and freed from impurities, yielding a powdery material. This powder is fed into a furnace heated to a temperature between 800 – 1000 °C.

Calcination at these temperatures removes the organic impurities and the diatoms cake together by “bridge formation” but without losing their porosity. Larger, white particles are obtained by calcination/activation using a fluxing agent.

After cooling down, the product is ground and classified to achieve particular particle size distributions depending on the uses. Clarcel filter aids are manufactured in factories that are ISO 9000 certified. They are monitored at every production stage from raw material to finished product. Each pallet corresponds to a batch whose specification is your guarantee.
